my sweet tooth discovered medjool dates and i've been putting them in everything. they're best from the turkish grocers in my neighborhood or the upscale irma supermarket chain. you want the skins to be paper-thin and wrinkled, with tiny crystals of natural sugar on the surface. the insides should be chewy and soft, like melted brown sugar. the best is if you saute them in coconut oil & sea salt, then fold into an omelette. or blend them into a smoothie with banana, almond milk, and cinnamon. for a quick snack, split one down the middle and tuck a tiny spoonful of almond butter inside.

my sister's favorite spot when she came to visit in july - this multi-space in inner nørrebro developed out of an un-used street corner and contains a sunken basketball court as well as skateboard surfaces. it can be turned into an auditorium with side seating, and on a nearby building they've painted a white screen for cinema-showings.

one of my favorite cafes made this for me when i began to come down with a cold the other week. matcha and a ginger and apple shot. paired with wired, which i didn't really end up reading as i realized i had gotten to the cafe early to sit down and witness what was the first day of school for many kids in copenhagen. a flurry of bikes, parents with children, and grandparents walking their grandchildren to school. kids skipped by me and said hello to some of the other regulars on the bench, who were starting their morning with coffee and a cigarette. i eavesdropped in on this moment. it was delicious.
